Cash Scholarships
The 7th Annual Gene Kelly Cash Scholarships are awarded each year to high school seniors participating in the Gene Kelly Awards. These students must be committed to pursuing a degree with an institution of higher education focused in the arts. These individuals represent the vision and integrity of the Gene Kelly Awards as demonstrated through their artistic and academic excellence.
Eligibility
- A current participating Gene Kelly Awards school may nominate four students who are participating in its 2012 musical in the following areas: acting, singing, dance, stage management, technical theater/design.
- The student must be a senior in good standing at their high school and with the Pittsburgh CLO Gene Kelly Awards.
- The Award is based upon artistic and academic merit.
- Student must audition or present a portfolio.
Application Process
- The school must submit the required School Nomination Form by April 6, 2012.
- This form must be completed by a principal, teacher, or school counselor.

- The student will audition at the Pittsburgh CLO Academy before an independent panel of judges. Final scoring will be based upon the student’s audition results, essay, and academic scores. Upon the decision of the independent judges, the Pittsburgh CLO will notify the student of the outcome.
- Recipients of the scholarship will receive a cash scholarship and one complimentary ticket to attend the Gene Kelly Awards, where they will be honored with their achievement.

CLO Ambassadors’ Scholarships
The CLO Ambassadors, a volunteer support group of the CLO, recognize that theater requires the dedication of all participants both on stage and behind the scenes. Therefore, they are pleased to award a scholarship to an individual participating in any capacity of their school’s 2012 Gene Kelly Awards musical.
Eligibility
- A current participating Gene Kelly Awards school may nominate four students who are participating in any aspect of its 2012 musical (performer, designer, stage crew, etc.).
- The student must be a senior in good standing at their high school and with the Pittsburgh CLO Gene Kelly Awards.
- The student should exemplify the collaborative aspect of theater, working well with both other students and adult advisors.
- The student has gone above and beyond what he or she was asked to do.
- Ideally, the experience of working on the musical will have made a positive impact on the nominee’s goals and outlook.

CLO Guild Scholarships
The Pittsburgh CLO, in partnership with the Pittsburgh CLO Guild and the Constance T. Rockwell Scholarship Program, is pleased to provide this information on the scholarship awarded at the 2012 CLO Gene Kelly Awards.
Eligibility
- Scholarships are limited to high school seniors who want to pursue a degree in theater arts.
- Student must have applied to an accredited college, university, or conservatory that offers a four-year program with a requisite audition prior to submitting an application.
- If a student receives a full scholarship from any other source, he or she will not be eligible for the Constance T. Rockwell Scholarship. However, those receiving a partial scholarship or scholarships are eligible.
Criteria for Determination of Semi-Finalists
- Applicants will be evaluated with regard to financial need, experience, and scholarship merit, as well as school and community involvement.
- All applicants will receive notification of their status after the committee has thoroughly reviewed all applications. Each semi-finalist will be interviewed by, and audition for, the scholarship committee.
Scholarship Value
- Constance T. Rockwell Performing Arts Scholarships are awarded in a minimum amount of $4,000.
- Scholarships must be applied towards tuition for the student’s freshman year at an accredited college, university, or conservatory that offers a four-year program in theater or performing arts, e.g. dance, drama, music, voice, costume design, set design, lighting, or sound.

University Scholarships
LAROCHE COLLEGE
La Roche College, in partnership with the Pittsburgh CLO, is pleased to provide this information concerning its Dance Scholarship.
Eligibility
- All students who participate in the Pittsburgh CLO Gene Kelly Awards as a member of a participating high school are eligible for consideration.
- All interested students must contact Maria Caruso at least two weeks prior to the date in which they would like to schedule and audition. Students may audition on Thursdays from 9-10:30 or from 4-5:30.
Terms of Award
- The recipient must enroll as a full-time dance major at La Roche College.
Scholarship Value
- The guaranteed award is $2,000 per year for each of four years. The scholarship may be used in conjunction with, or in addition to other La Roche College scholarships.

POINT PARK UNIVERSITY
Point Park University, in partnership with the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, is pleased to provide two Conservatory scholarships to be awarded at the 2012 CLO Gene Kelly Awards.
Eligibility
- All students who participate in the Pittsburgh CLO Gene Kelly Awards as a member of a participating high school are eligible for scholarship consideration.
- Candidates for these scholarships should be completing their senior year of high school, and have applied and been academically accepted to Point Park University.
- Each Candidate is expected to also have completed an audition and/or interview and received artistic acceptance into Point Park University Conservatory of Performing Arts Theatre or Dance Department.
Terms of the Award
- The recipient must enroll as a full-time student Conservatory of Performing Arts major for the Fall term of 2012.
Scholarship Value
- The scholarships will be awarded in two categories; Performance and Stage Management. Each award will be a four year $5,000 scholarship.
- Students interested in being considered for either award should complete a Gene Kelly Scholarship application and submit it to Joseph McGoldrick, Director of Artistic Recruitment, Conservatory of Performing Arts by May 1, 2012. The Recipients will be announced the evening of the Kelly awards.
SETON HILL UNIVERSITY
The Seton Hill University Theatre Program, in conjunction with the Pittsburgh CLO, is offering high school students participating in the Gene Kelly Awards special opportunities to compete for our high-value merit-based scholarships in theatre.
Eligibility
- All senior-level students who participate in the Pittsburgh CLO’s Gene Kelly Awards are eligible for consideration.
- Preference is given to candidates who possess a cumulative high school GPA of 3.2 or better and a minimum SAT of 1200, but anyone accepted by the University is eligible.
- Students must complete all relevant application requirements and be accepted to major in Theatre at Seton Hill University.
- Students are required to complete an on-campus audition or portfolio review, as well as an interview with the Theatre Program faculty.
- Students may choose to major in Music Theatre, Theatre Performance, Technical Theatre, Theatre/Business, Theatre Arts, or Dance to receive scholarship consideration.
Terms of Award
- The recipient must accept the scholarship within the time frame indicated on the offer letter.
- The recipient must enroll as a full-time student majoring in Theatre at Seton Hill University in the fall semester following the award of the scholarship.
- The scholarship is renewable for up to four years.
- Renewal of the award each semester is contingent on the recipient maintaining a 3.0 GPA, making satisfactory progress towards the degree, and auditioning for all mainstage shows and performing as cast.
Scholarship Value
- The most prestigious scholarship, the Division of Visual and Performing Arts “Seton Scholar” Award, is a full-tuition scholarship, currently valued at $29,000 per year. Students participating in the Gene Kelly Awards who meet other eligibility requirements detailed above will receive targeted consideration for this scholarship. The aggregate value of the Seton Scholar Award is over $100,000 over the four years of the award.
- Other merit-based theatre scholarships available to Gene Kelly Award participants will range from $2,000 to $10,000 per year, or $8,000 to $40,000 total over four years.
- All scholarships are credited against tuition in two equal installments, one for each semester of the academic year.

WESTMINSTER COLLEGE OF THE ARTS
The School of Fine and Performing Arts of the Westminster College of the Arts of Rider University, in partnership with the Pittsburgh CLO, is pleased to provide this information concerning its Music Theater Scholarship.
Eligibility
- All students who participate in the Pittsburgh CLO Gene Kelly Awards as a member of a participating high school are eligible for consideration.
- The recipient must have a minimum high school GPA of 3.0.
- The recipient must be accepted as a music theater major at Rider University.
Terms of Award
- The recipient must enroll as a full-time music theater major in the School of Fine and Performing Arts of Rider University in the fall semester immediately following the initial receipt of this scholarship.
- This scholarship is renewable for a maximum of four years.
- Eligibility will require continuous full-time enrollment in the music theater major, maintenance of a 3.0 GPA and satisfactory progress as a music theater major at Rider University.
Scholarship Value
- The guaranteed award is $12,000 per year for each of four years, credited against tuition charges in installments of $6,000 per semester of full-time enrollment. The aggregate total scholarship awarded over four years will be a maximum of $48,000.
