At only 23 years of age,Western Pennsylvania native, Nellie Bly began to pioneer a new kind of undercover, investigative journalism sometimes known as “stunt reporting.” The peak of Bly’s fame came when she took a whirlwind trip around the world in 1889 to beat Phileas Fogg, the fictional hero of Jules Verne’s “Around the World in Eighty Days.” Traveling by ship, train and even burro, she returned to New York in 72 days, 6 hours and 11 minutes as a celebrity, cheered by crowds of men and women.

Bringing History to Life Through Educational Musicals Presented at Your School
About Gallery of Heroes
Through dramatic sketches and musical vignettes, Pittsburgh CLO’s Gallery of Heroes program takes its 50-minute mini-musicals to area schools to educate and enlighten students about great historical figures such as George Washington, Roberto Clemente, the Wright Brothers and Harriet Tubman. Highlighting the lives and accomplishments of significant historical figures, Gallery of Heroes offers an entertaining alternative to traditional lectures and books.
A Gallery of Heroes full musical production can be performed in a school cafeteria or auditorium:
- 50-Minute Musical
- Fully Staged and Choreographed

- Full Costume and Scenery
- Teacher and Student Guides
Space requirement for the production is 25’ by 25’. Cost is $600.00 (additional fuel charge outside Allegheny County).
